Nails & Cuticles - Eight Care Tips

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 1:48 pm

Nail care is very important! Why?

When it comes to making a good impression, well kept fingernails rank highly. Poorly kept nails are almost immediately noticed and can greatly impact a person’s image and the all important first assessment when meeting someone for the first time.

Use these eight care tips to ensure your nails serve as a good advertisement and help build a positive image:

1. Healthy looking nails should be smooth, curved, void of any spotting, and should not have any hollows or ridges.

2. Make sure your nails are completely dry before you file them.

3. Shape your nails with a fine emery board, do not use any type of metal file.

4. When filing, try to keep the shape of your nails oval not pointed, thus making the nails less susceptible to breakage.

5. The cuticle acts as a seal between the finger and the nail. Gently exfoliating the dry, rough, cuticle skin layers by actually sloughing off the dead outer layers exposes new and vibrant skin.

6. This new healthy skin protects the nails matrix which is the growth center of the nail and should be treated with care.

7. Don’t over manicure your cuticles. Over-grooming the cuticle damages the cuticle and causes it to thicken and overgrow.

8. Never use metal or sharp instruments on your cuticles.

Former Boring Professional Reveals…”How Almost Any Attorney or Accountant Can Start Having Fun While Making More Money!”

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 1:48 pm

Jack McDonough is bringing a rather refreshing spin to two of the most traditionally staid professions… law and accounting.

Although Jack understands the need for core technical competency in both fields, he has never understood why they have to be so BORING. And for the life of him, Jack can’t get why those who practice in these fields seem to become as equally boring as the mundane tasks they perform.

Jack knows that the words “law” and “accounting” alone can conjure up all types of fear for those people who are forced to deal with such professionals. And the truth is that these legal and accounting professionals are nothing but paid messengers for situations that have just cost clients their money, their sleep, and/or their time.

Given that, why not choose to make the process as fun as possible - and lucrative as all get out?
(Do you need a minute to think about that?)

Even thought it seems simple enough, the real problem is that these professions are way ‘over-professionalized’ (especially law). There are just too many professionals chasing too few clients (and their dollars). Makes trying to have fun as a professional way too difficult, because every professional is constantly trying to lure away other professionals’ clients.

Unfortunately, Jack was not immune to being professionally boring either…as he searched for new clients just like everybody else. For those of you who know Jack, being boring is not his strong suit. He can fake it (if he has to) for awhile. But in reality, he is the kind of guy who makes you laugh at funerals…mostly because you’re not suppose to. He will pipe up at important meetings about stuff that most people would never discuss …and later have people thank him “for saying what everybody was thinking…but no one would say.”

Why is he like that? Who knows…but he is.

For those professionals in the legal and accounting professions who have been lucky enough to come in contact with Jack…they’ve been rewarded with straight-up advice - that when applied - allowed them to have fun everyday as a professional, make more money than they every imagined, work less hours, and most importantly, live the life they used to only dream about. It most cases the lives they now live are filled with time - to spend with kids, spouses, family and friends.

Jack enjoys telling professionals about how great life can be as a ‘professional’…that is, if they could only do it their way - instead of how everybody else in the profession thinks it should be done. Unfortunately, most accountants and attorneys still sell their time by the hour and end up selling the best part of their own lives for a relatively low hourly wage. If you really only want to get paid by the hour…then get a real job. It’s easier, less stressful and you’ll make more money.

Jack knows that if you want to have fun as a professional while making as much money as you want and have lots of time off…then you can’t be like all the other professionals doing the same old stuff, like you’re doing right now.

Why?

It doesn’t work. You don’t have to believe Jack…look around at your peers. Check out how much time they take off. How is their health? Are their relationships solid? Do they have income? Have they fully funded their retirement or are they waiting for the big case or the big year to take care of that? How many weeks a year are they really on vacation? Do they have time for a hobby?

Jack spent years fighting it out in the trenches, too. By working a ton and growing his own accounting firm, and he did relatively well at it. He made good money. BUT, he left for work in the dark and came home in the dark. He worked most weekends and always brought more work home. His ultimate reward for all this work was getting divorced after 17 years of marriage.

What Jack learned from all of that was this…If you want to successful as a professional, you need to create a practice which is both fun and lucrative. If you’re missing either of these key ingredients to professional success…then you’ll be missing out on life. Don’t do it!

Jack maintains his CPA certificate in the state of Colorado as he continues to help thousands of professionals each year in both the legal and accounting fields to break out of the boring mode that most professionals become trapped in. And he shows them how to have fun, while making as much money as they want and - most importantly - how to create the time to enjoy their life with their family and loved ones.

Jack has created a variety of programs, systems, tools and models to support the thousands of attorneys and accountants who have been fortunate enough to figure out that they want different. And with Jack’s help, they are creating the professional life that most professionals only dream about.

Wedding Anniversary Gift - A Family Portrait In Oil

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 8:27 am

A wedding anniversary gift, such as family oil portrait, does not have to wait until the married couple is well advanced in years. Instead, a family portrait can be given at any point in the marriage, even as a 10th anniversary gift or a 20th anniversary gift. The oil painting portrait represents a moment in time that will invoke precious memories for years to come.

What to Include in the Family Portrait

For a couple that is celebrating a 10th anniversary or a 20th anniversary, you may want to consider an oil painting portrait that features the couple themselves, perhaps taken from a favorite snapshot or wedding photo. For a 30th wedding anniversary gift or a 40th wedding anniversary gift, you may want to include more family members in the portrait to depict how the family has grown.

Children and grandchildren can be included in the wedding anniversary gift as a celebration of how far the family has come over the years. Another idea would be to use a picture taken on the couple’s wedding day ad have that transformed into an oil painting from the photo.

Benefits of a Family Portrait

Some of the benefits of giving a family portrait in oil as a wedding anniversary gift are that is commemorates the milestones a family has walked through to get as far as they have. Also, because a family portrait in oil is a unique gift, you can be sure no one else will be giving the same thing. It takes a lot to pull a family together for a family portrait, especially if you come from a large family, however, keep in mind that the hassle of organizing and pulling it all together will be well worth the effort when the finish product is presented to the people whose wedding anniversary you are celebrating.

An oil painting is an important family heirloom that can be passed down through the generations as a commemoration of how the family began and it will always bring to mind the special occasion of the anniversary celebration on which it was given.

The Family Portrait Tradition

Traditionally, family members would pose for hours on end over a span of days or weeks while an artist rendered their likeness in an oil painting portrait. This is a very time consuming process and is not generally conducive to the busy schedules of modern families. One way to have the benefit of the canvas oil painting without the long hours of posing is to have an oil painting made from a photo.

A wedding anniversary gift should be special and should reflect the family unit that was formed from the marriage union of the couple. An oil painting portrait, such as a family oil painting is a unique gift and a way to express the gratitude, pride and respect that you feel for how far the couple as come and what they have accomplished in the lives and in their marriage.

A family portrait in oil can be given by friends or family members, such as children or grandchildren or even siblings and parents. It’s a timeless and classic wedding anniversary gift that is not confined to a certain point in time.

Allan Holder is the founder and owner of www.mypicturepainter.com http://www.mypicturepainter.com which is a site dedicated to the revival of the lost art of portrait painting. In today’s fast paced world, sitting for a portrait painting is simply not practical. We allows the user to submit a photo to our network of talented artists who will paint a personal oil painting from your photo.

Violence in Our Homes

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 8:27 am

The family is considered as the basic unit of the society. It is an inviolable social institution, which for all intents and purposes, is safeguarded by the state with all its pervasive powers and coercive mechanism. The family has in fact been so important in our present society, that marriage is actually a foundation of the family has been protected with much zeal by the state.

When man and woman comes into a conglomeration with each other, it is assumed that they are already one, and not even the mere acquiescence of the parties, or the volition of one party could have such contract be eradicated. Yet notwithstanding the same, it is not a bolted lock that would last a lifetime even if it would no longer be healthy to the family whose interest it was suppose to foster. The marriage bonds may be broken if the union has already been plagued with envy, angry, hatred, and violence. Domestic violence has been abundant in our society today. Psychologists view it as a way of showing one’s control over a family, and to show who actually must be followed and who owns and manipulates the same.

It is a showing of territorial control prevalent among lower forms of animals, that is, with the expression of violent acts on the beings within his territorial domain, the predator acts in such a vicious manner to maintain his control thereof, and thus, legitimizes his rule. This is the picture being painted in domestic violence among members of the family. The father, which usually is the culprit in these types of offenses, has a constant drive to show that he has a control over his wife and his flock, showing his power by hurting his wife, or even to the extent of hurting his children, or other people in the household.

Domestic violence is a dreaded offense. Not only would it amount to lose of parental authority, it may also be considered as a criminal offense which can be penalized by imprisonment, or if circumstances led to more drastic effects then the penalty of death. A person shall be liable for all the consequences of his act whether the wrongful act done be different from that which he intended. That has been the constant rule when it comes to our courts of law. Hence, if a person causes the death of another by reason of a domestic violence then he would be liable thereof even the wrongful act done was not what he supposedly and originally intended.

Exploring Vegetarianism …

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 2:26 am

Most people who are interested in a pure 100% vegetarian lifestyle do so for many reasons. These may include reducing suffering, improving one’s health, or environmental issues.

Regardless of why one explores an animal-friendly lifestyle these choices could be the most important things one can do to make that difference in the world. By removing things like meat, eggs and dairy from ones life, you can make a statement against cruelty to animals, better health and helping to heal the planet and it’s environmental issues. As supporting the production of vegan (100% vegetarian) products you are supporting a much more sustainable future, therefore these decisions send a message to others and help society become aware of a more humane way of living peacefully and lightly.

There are many pure vegetarian foods and products on offer across the globe these days. Shopping has become a way of showing one’s compassion and awareness for many vegetarians. And yes you don’t have to go without if you do not consume animal by-products.

Here’s just a sample list of some of the great many foods on offer for you:

Veggie Burgers, Veggie Hot Dogs or Sausages, Tofurky, Vegan Mince, Veggie Bacon, Almond milk, soy milk, rice milk, oat and potato milks (some contain sweeteners or come in flavored options and most vegan milks are fortified with calcium and vitamins D & B12 as well). Non-dairy Ice Creams, sorbets and desserts, egg replacers, tofu, seitan, soy margarine, tempeh, TVP (texturized vegetable protein), soy cheeses including sour, creamed and whipped creams. And we can’t forget about the many fruits, grains, nuts, seeds and vegetables to choose from as well.

So as you can see there is an abundance of food to choose from. And as stated by many vegetarians across the Globe, what we do is as important as what we don’t do. Therefore living with compassion and exploring the vegetarian way of life could and most probably will change your life for the better.

Just Play Beach Soccer

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 2:26 am

One friend of mine asked me recently why all men are crazy about playing football or what is known in United States as soccer. I am sick of explaining things that you can only understand based on personal experience. But although I managed to provide her with a luminous answer, she came back stating yet another question. Is it different to play soccer on the grass than to play it on the beach? That was a good one. Of course it is different, I replied. Beach soccer, as you can tell by its name, is a sport played on the beaches; preferably during spring or summer time. Although it has been played informally for decades, it was given its official name and rules only recently and specifically in 1992. Since then it managed to become a rather popular sport and I believe that if you really want to learn something about soccer you should better start playing it on the beach.

Playing soccer on the beach is considered by many fans as the paradise of the apprentice. The soft-sand playing surface can correct some usual mistakes for a beginner, as the ball often stacks on it. Actually, the element of sand does only facilitate the efforts of new players, but it is considered a heavy obstacle even for those experienced ones that wish to show off their abilities. Plus the compact pitch -measuring 28 x 37 meters if there is an official beach soccer facility- is by far smaller than the grass field and makes scoring easier, even for players who decide to try it for the first time.

A great advantage of beach soccer is the fact that one needs no special equipment to play it. An adequate size ball and the sand of the beach are more than enough for one to begin exploring this game’s unique character. Even when no organized facility on the beach exists, those interested to play beach soccer need only two canes to symbolize the area of a goalpost. Canes or just a pile of clothes are preferable in comparison to heavy stones or even huge blocks of rocks, which can be very dangerous for feet injuries, as shoes are not allowed in this game. Thus, if you are on a sandy beach, it is a sunny day, and you have nine friends willing to join you, you can start playing beach soccer. When you do experience it, let me know if you liked it. Most importantly, let your girlfriend know!

When I finished my lecture about beach soccer my friend seemed excited. I will play it every single weekend, she said. But before you ask yourselves how much time should you invest in practicing this sport, before you can consider yourselves good soccer players, try playing it for awhile. Since you cannot play beach soccer all year around, unless you move to California or Florida every time you have a beach soccer need, you have to exercise your soccer playing abilities on the actual lawn ground. Believe me when I tell you that it is not that easy there too!

Is Webtv Worth Purchasing, How Can It Compete With Cable Or Satellite

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 10:46 pm

I first looked into webtv back when dialup and 15 inch monster monitors were the standard and I thought how could watch tv from my computer possibly be worth watching. I mean if the picture is only 15 inches and I am using a dialup connection is it even possible to watch tv from my computer. If wondering whether it would be worth watching wasn’t bad enough I was left with hundreds of choices from where to get webtv. There just seemed to be too many outlets to purchase the product from.

This was probably about 6 to 7 years ago when I first considered getting webtv, with all of these questions and no answer to really be found I just figured I never would get webtv, but then about 4 months ago there was an article about webtv and a particular version of webtv. I was really skeptical, I bookmarked the page and came back for a second look. They promised over 3000 channels with many of the popular cable and satellite channels, I mean there is no way this can be as good as my satellite tv.

Reluctantly I gave in, I made the purchase and started go through some of the 3000 plus channels that were available and at first I found a few of the good cable channels like HBO or USA, but as I kept looking there were a lot more of these kind of channels and as a sports fanatic, I was amazed by the amount of sports channels that were available. This product has saved me from missing a lot of great sporting events, I now wonder how I ever went without it.

Get Access to over 3000 channels, a viewing experience that blows cable and satellite out of the water

You can get all of these great channels for just $49.99, thats right for a one time payment of Just $49.99, you can turn your computer into the greatest entertainment center available. Thats less that one month of cable or satellite, similiar products are selling for 8 to 10 times as much, so don’t expect this price to last too much longer.

The Secret Psychology of a Pianist

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 9:16 pm

As a professional concert pianist I have over time developed a secret psychology that helps me in any situation. You see, quite frankly I need a psychology that helps me because the music business is a tough business. If you’re not sure you agree that it is tough then consider this; how many professional concert pianists do you know? Comparatively, how many doctors, lawyers, accountants, car salesmen, teachers or nurses do you know? Are you getting the picture?

The fact that very very few pianists actually make a professional concert career out of it shows us that it may not be that easy to do. Therefore, to keep going in an industry that continually turns talented pianists from aspiring concert professionals into teachers, one must develop a personal psychology to not only cope with the demands of the profession but, to keep going when all the odds say that it’s not possible.

My personal psychology includes focusing on four main areas which when developed can propel me forward regardless of the competition or the demands of the job itself. These are the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical parts of my life. However, it is the first three that I focus on the most. In fact, the mental, emotional and spiritual parts of myself that I do have control over are reflected in my physical world. My physical world is just a printout of how I am feeling mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

So, when I feel like it’s impossible to do something or achieve something in my career I turn to the three things that I can control. For example; let’s say that I have a new concert opportunity coming up that’s different than anything I’ve ever done before. As a matter of fact this is true. In a few months I’ll be performing an entire evening’s concert of my own music with a professional orchestra. That’s right, I have to compose, arrange and practice nine movements of “The Road to Santiago” suite, a selection of songs that I wrote while walking a pilgrimage in 2004.

To many people this would seem like a huge undertaking. Well, it is. But, I don’t really think of it that way. If I did, I’d never get it done. I cannot for one moment allow myself to get drawn into any negative state of mind. Therefore to cope, I turn to my mental state, emotional state and spiritual state to get me through it.

How does this work? First of all let’s focus on the mental state. My mental state means my logical mind. This is the part of my brain that draws upon its past experience to carry out the academic challenges of the job. In terms of my concert that would mean the preparation, practicing, business challenges and anything else that my brain has to figure out. To survive mentally with so many things going is only possible if I focus on one thing at a time. To achieve this I give one single a task 100% of my energy until it’s completed. Or, if I’m practicing, I give one piece 100% of my energy until I’ve learned it, then I do it again in 24 hours then again in 7 days. My retention rate for learning goes up 85% if I follow this formula.

Emotionally, it’s far easier for me to remember that the outcome is part of my journey. Will I get everything right? Probably not. I will learn many things on this project, some of which I do not care to learn. But, everything I learn will get tucked away in my toolbox to use for next time. My emotions will be easier to handle if I just remain calm about everything and not let others distract me from my true purpose, which is to do the best that I can do.

The spiritual parts of myself are most important in any situation. My belief system includes many teachings which I have adopted as my own truth. Examples of this are; I believe that everything happens for a reason. Therefore, no matter what happens up until the concert and no matter what happens during the concert, everything is perfect.

So far in this project many things have happened that I don’t like. But, the spiritual parts of me know that it all comes out in the wash. I can push the envelope of a higher calling without having to worry about the outcome. The fact is if I shoot for the stars I’m at least going to hit the moon. And, no matter what anyone says about me before, during or after this concert it doesn’t matter. What really matters is that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing and I’m going to learn something. Spiritually I believe that learning is the key to life itself. Otherwise, what would be the point?

If you are struggling in your own situation to find some answers consider adopting similar psychology. The, dive in and learn something. You’ll be far better off than if you don’t take the chance in the first place. I’ve never written or performed nine symphonies before. But, to me, the only risk is not taking one.

U. S. Seniors Retiring To Iraq; Say That’s Where The Medicare Money Is.

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 9:16 pm

U. S. senior citizens, noting President Bush’s new budget, which calls for billions to be spent in Iraq while billions are cut from Medicare, are foregoing traditional retirement destinations like Florida and Arizona and opting for Iraq.

The numbers reflect a convincing coincidence. Bush’s budget calls for $100 billion more for Iraq and $100 billion in cuts for Medicare.

Following up on the new retirement trend, we went to Kennedy Airport and caught up with some seniors who were booked for Baghdad.

“Excuse me,” I asked a group of seniors who just stepped off the bus in front of Saudi Arabian Airlines. “I understand you’re all heading for Iraq?”

“That’s right,” a man in Bermuda shorts replied, and reached into his golf bag. He took out a chapeau in the usual mullah fashion. “Got my black turban right here. You know what they say? When in Baghdad, do as the Iraqis do.”

“And I have my black burkah,” his wife added, lifting it from her purse. She slipped it over her head and modeled it. “What do you think?”

“Very cute,” I replied. “You’ll fit right in. Can you please clarify why you’ve chosen to retire in Iraq instead of, say, Miami?”

“Simple, son,” a man with a fishing rod, who happened to be wearing a baseball cap on top of his turban, said, “That’s where the Medicare money is.”

“Not to mention social security,” his wife commented.

“The plain fact is, we’d rather eat in Iraq than starve in America,” another man added.

“But aren’t you concerned about safety issues?” I asked.

“Of course, we are,” the man in the Bermudas replied. “But we’re in this for the long term and, the way things are going, we can hardly count on Medicare and social security in America.”

“We’ve got to follow the food,” another elderly gentleman stated.

“But you could get blown up?” I suggested.

“Oh, we thought about that,” the man with the baseball hat on top of his turban replied. “We’ll just have to take our chances.”

“Never underestimate the power of a senior citizen,” a frail man said, raising his fist. “Didn’t you read about the 70-year-old fella who broke the neck of the kid who tried to rob a busload of seniors?”

“Yes, I did notice that event,” I told him.

“He was a war vet,” one of the women informed me, with evident pride.

“Yep, of one American war or another,” a senior volunteered with a sigh. “Quite a few to choose from.”

“How about suicide bombers?” I dared to ask.

“Bring ‘em on, son,” the frail senior said, assuming the position of a boxer with his dukes up.

“But aren’t you forgetting that most of the money earmarked for Iraq is for military activity?” I asked.

“We’re going for the rebuilding money,” the man in the Bermudas said. “They’re wasting billions. And we figure we can get in the way of some of it.”

“And what do you think is going to happen when Americans see millions of seniors, retired in Iraq? They can’t just let us starve there, can they?”

“Congress will have to divvy up something for us, and that’s more than they’re likely to do if we stay in America.”

“And something is better than nothing,” a woman affirmed.

“But what about the culture gap?” I asked. “Aren’t you a little set in your ways?”

“Yes, we are,” one of the men admitted.

“I notice the turbans. Do you plan on becoming Muslim?”

“Whatever it takes to get in the way of some money,” the man insisted.

“We’ve thought about it,” his wife interjected. “And becoming Islamic is better than not being able to afford medical care.”

“Or starving on what’s left of social security,” another woman added.

“Do you think you’ll be able to enjoy the usual retirement activities there, like golf and fishing?” I asked.

“No problem,” the man with the golf bag said. “Iraq may not have the best golf courses, but I see there’s plenty of desert for sand traps.”

“I’ve noticed a river runs through Baghdad,” the man with the fishing rod said. “Got to be something in it besides body parts.”

“How about you?” I asked a woman with a tennis racquet.

“I haven’t seen any tennis courts there,” she admitted, “but some of the sand should be hard enough for the ball to bounce.”

“What about a net?” I asked.

“I guess there’ll be some sacrifices,” she replied, and looked around at the crowd. “But I know one thing. I won’t have far to look for someone to play with.”

“I brought my racket,” another woman called.

“And, if worse comes to worse,” her husband advised her, “you can teach an Iraqi how to play.”

“Excuse us, son,” one of the men said. “We have to move along now. Can’t miss our flight.”

“We’re bound for Baghdad!” his wife almost sang.

“OK,” I replied. “Thanks for the interview. And enjoy your retirement.”

Grain Milling Tip 1 - Part 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 4:14 pm

Tip #1 - You do WHAT? Why bother? - Part Two

Part One of this tip may have helped you determine a few health reasons why it is good to mill your own grains, but that may still not be enough to satisfy your friends and family.

The following tip to answering the questions of why you bother to mill at home is the advantages of cost and storage. Of course, we can purchase ‘whole wheat bread’ at the bakery. Of course, ‘dead bagged flour’ lasts for a pretty good period of time. Are these reasons to pass up home milling all together? Of course not! In fact, look closer and you can see why milling at home is better.

Health advantages aside, which is the MOST vital one in my personal opinion, storage and cost come up on the convenience end of considering milling at home. The ‘whole wheat’ loaf of bread we can buy in the bakery is not only made of old, processed whole wheat, but by the government regulations only has to be at least 51% - or mostly whole wheat - to be labeled as such. I deviate, this is also a health reason. The cost of a loaf is generally $2.29. A home milled, fresh WHOLE GRAIN flour, loaf of bread costs me generally $.75 to make and that is using all organic (a bit pricier) grains and sugar. Also, I know for certain what is in that loaf!

Storage is the other thought. Of course, in our house the bread doesn’t last long because we can’t resist slicing into a warm loaf when we smell it so we don’t have to worry about self life. However, the grains last for years! The husk was created as the greatest protection for the grain. Grains have been found in pyramids that were over 4000 years old and when planted, they grew just as they were meant to. I don’t think you’ll be needing those grains in 4000 years, but store the grains in a sturdy container and from getting moist and you can store them for years.
