Fear Be Gone

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 6:15 pm

I recently received an email that prompted me to answer a poll about what I feared most. I didn’t reply to the email because my biggest fear at that moment was the fear of receiving more unsolicited email. However, I did start thinking about the subject of fear. What are we afraid of? What is fear? What can we do about it? We all have fears at one time or another and to one degree or another. I did a little research of my own and found that next to terrorist, fear of public speaking and fear of success ranked high on the list of things people fear most.

Fear of Public Speaking

According to one survey I read, many people fear public speaking more than death. Although most people are not aware of why they have a fear of public speaking on a conscious level, psychological studies have determined that nearly everyone who has a fear of public speaking experienced some major or minor trauma when they were younger that causes them to be fearful of public speaking as teenagers or adults.

Fear of Success

Another high ranking and common fear is fear of success. Success means achieving or accomplishing a goal. Success can mean the attainment of wealth, fame, power or whatever you truly desire for yourself. Success is a good thing. Why, then, are so many of us afraid of success either consciously or unconsciously? It is all about how we perceive success.

Instead of focusing on how good it will feel to finally accomplish our goals, we are focused on the negative aspects. Perhaps we have a memory of a successful person who was ridiculed for having too much money . Perhaps we remember hearing that it is easier for a poor man to get into the kingdom of heaven or that successful people feel they are better than others. Therefore, we become fearful of what others may say and think about us if we become successful. We often sabotage our own success.

We are not afraid of success itself. We are afraid of what we imagine success might bring with it. We think we might or should feel guilty for having the good life . We fear making our friends jealous and think they will no longer like us. We fear we are going to have to work harder to maintain our new status. We fear that we’ll have to pay huge taxes. We fear that people will try to steal from us. We wonder what would happen if we were to lose our fortune.

A Powerful Emotion

Fear is an emotion and the symptoms of this emotion manifest in each of us in various ways. Some of the symptoms of fear are shallow breathing, sweaty palms, upset stomach, nervousness, headache, inability to speak, inability to think clearly, depression, uncontrollable shaking, inability to moved, and anger. People literally lose their lives and have been known to take someone else’s life out of fear. All of the isms are the children of fear - racism, chauvinism, classism, sexism. Wars and crime thrive on fear.

Fear takes away our creativity, imagination, freedom and peace. Fear stops us from pursuing our dreams. Fear destroys relationships and can make us physically ill. These four letters, F E A R, represent the most powerful negative emotion that exists.

And just think, we have all this unhappiness and suffering over something that does not even exist except for the meaning or perception that we give to a person, place, thing or event. Our fears only live because each of us gives our own fears life. The fears we have exist because we nurture them, feed them, and acknowledge them.

Our Past Stories and Imaginations

In other words, our fears are based on our individual perceptions, and our perceptions are based on our individual stories or histories and our imaginations.

How else can we explain the fact that each of us has different fears and fears to different degrees? For instance, there are many people who love dogs. However, there are also people who fear dogs. Some love snakes and have them as pets. Yet, many others are extremely afraid of snakes and become traumatized at the mere sight of them.

Most of the time, we are not even aware of the stories that our fears are based on. Some of us have anxiety attacks and are fearful over a comment that another child made to us when we were small. In other words, we let a child from our past control our life and health today.

Release the Fear

In order to release the fear, we must change our perceptions about a person, event or object. Choose to see it for what it is - a person, an event or an object. Many of us fear things that have not happened and may never happen. We cannot enjoy our lives today because we are fearful of what the future may hold. We can choose to release ourselves from the hold that our past stories and our imaginations have on us.

If you are totally immobilized by fear of something, you can always seek assistance from techniques such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), or hypnotherapy. I encourage you to explore the options each of these techniques provide. Each of them, using their own methods, de-traumatizes past traumas and identify and integrate conflicting belief systems that keep us from doing things we want to do.

In my experience, these types of procedures can bring about relief from fears quickly. Instead of treating the symptoms, as medications do, these techniques and other similar procedures address the cause of the fear.

A Signal for Change

The positive aspect of fear is that it is a signal for change. If someone were to point a gun at us, in the mist of fear, we would hope that something would change for the better. Hopefully, we would think of some way to change the situation without being harmed. When faced with the fear of the possibility of a child being harmed, parents have found physical strength and mental courage that they did not know was possible.

And so it is with our everyday fears. Let fear be a signal to change or move in a new direction. Move beyond your comfort zone. Perhaps we need more knowledge about the person, place, or thing that is causing us to feel fearful. Most importantly, move toward love. Love yourself. Love everyone and everything. Love is the most powerful emotion. Where there is real love, fear will perish.

We Are More Powerful than Fear

In my opinion, failure to remember who we are in relation to God and this great Universe is the number one cause of fear. Where there is no faith, there is fear. The absence of belief in ourselves and what we are capable of creates doubt and fear.

Yes, there will be tragedies. No, things will not always go as you planned. Yes, there will be people who want to say negative things about you. These people would rather comment on what appear to be your flaws rather than deal with their own. Do not give them your power.

None of us are ordinary human beings. All of us are extraordinary divine beings. Everyone has the power that will not fail, should it be acknowledged and embraced. Sometimes, I have to remind myself of this. I say, Fear, be gone. You have no power here. Just by saying these words, it is as if I turn on a light and I see fear for what it really is - nothing.

Introducing Kid Play Food to Your Kids

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 6:15 pm

Parents are often concerned about introducing the concept of kid play food to their children especially if their kids are boys. The usual idea is that kid play food may be just for girls. This may not necessarily be the case. A lot of certified chefs are males and they may have started with just their own set of kid play food. In most cases too, kid play food can effectively teach kids healthy eating habits.

In introducing kid play food to your kids, it is important to take a close look at each food item in a kid play food set. Try to pick kid play food items that have gender neutral colors. You can also go for a set with various appliances and utensils like ovens and grills just to make sure that you have a “manly” set of kid play food appliances. As for kid play food design, it would help your kids if you picked items that are simple in design and easy to recognize.

If you are a parent with specific food or eating habit rules and principles, then you should also consider weeding out kid play food items that go against your beliefs. Vegans for example can take out all the meat items. Whether you are a vegan or not however, it is also a good idea to take out all the junk food items or items that may imply eating too much sugar and preservatives. These items can include packs of junk food, pies, hard candies, and cola bottles.

You can encourage kids to become more interested in their kid play food and on food and health in general by bringing your kids to the grocery as you shop for food. It is also a good idea to let your kids help around in the kitchen when you prepare and cook food. Your little boys can be tutored by the father of the house to remove all traces of role stereotypes.

Teach your kids how to play with kid play food by participating. Line up some stuffed toys or have the toys sit on chairs around a table. Help your kid prepare a pretend meal and serve the meal to the stuffed guests. It is suggested that you maintain constant communication with your child as you prepare the pretend meal. Ask her what ingredients are in the meal she is cooking and why these ingredients are good for people to eat. Make “yum-yum” sounds as you feed each stuffed guest.

Relationship Advice - The Highway of Love

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 4:21 pm

I’m stuck again. Not sick, not tired, just going backwards in my mind.

A psychic practitioner stopped me at the end of a party yesterday, and told me I was about to have a detour. Today. I don’t quite remember the exact words she used, but it was something along the lines of Right now you’re going down the 405, and you’re about to take a detour, and then you’ll have to decide what you want to do with your life.

And then she disappeared.

Okay. So one part of me sees only possibilities in that scenario - Wow, choices, new things, new roads, new…. And then another part - Gremlin Voice soaked for sure - screams Other shoe dropping! Any minute now! Watch out for falling shoes! And I look around me, furtively, searching each car that passes by, each person who passes by, each word that passes by, for a clue. For a sign. For impending disaster.

I have three choices. One, I can call up this practitioner and ask for clarification. But, I realize, nothing she says will change the fact that I must make one of the other two choices.

Two, I can wallow in fear and try to be very careful and watchful and vigilant, analyze everything that shows up in my life at every minute, and forget I’m actually alive and living.

Three, I can choose the choice of possibilities. I can - regardless of what the psychic has seen or knows, regardless of what she says or what she thinks, or even more profoundly, regardless of what I think - see every car that passes by, every person who passes by, each word that passes by as a detour into a new possibility.

And, if I make choice Number Three, I’d better know what I’m getting myself into - this new possibility might lead to another detour, to another possibility, to another, and another, where the choices are endless.

Am I more afraid of being stuck or of getting lost?

Is it that I’m really so certain I can’t choose right every time, or, does it really matter if I choose right every time?

Lots of questions, and sometimes the answer is I don’t know, or None of the Above. So how do I know what to do and where to go and what to think? And how do I stop my mind from racing to fear instead of flowing to possibilities?

Well, first off, just because I investigate another road doesn’t mean I’ve left the Highway of Love. In fact, what if I’m not even on it at all!

What if, even though I think I’ve been on the Highway of Love all this time, I’m really only on a side road? What if I’m not even on a road? What if I’ve been going in circles?

So, what if I want to continue down this so-called detour of a new possibility? What then? What if the detour leads to a bigger Highway? What if I’ve been on the Highway of Where I’ve Always Been and What I’ve Always Done, and the detour will lead me smack to the Highway of Love?

Well, how’s this for a job description: Adventurer!

Lots of men and women are making thrilling, actual lives out there being Indiana Jones - finding lost civilizations, solving ancient riddles, leading teams through the jungles of the world.

Everyone has a different tolerance for risk and a different idea of what’s in the pot of gold at the end of the Quest, and some of us quake at even the thought of stepping a foot into the unknown.

So many of us are traveling up and down a dead end wash we call love in the middle of something we only know of as familiarity.

Sometimes we ride it in souped-up all-terrain vehicles, and sometimes we crawl along it, but we hardly ever fly over it, and actually see, with our own eyes, that it’s been a dead-end all along.

So, what if the Highway of Love is truly a super-highway leading to…who knows where?

And, what if it’s really not all that hard to navigate? What if the only problem with it is it’s just not a dead-end wash? What if the only hard thing about it is it’s not familiar ?

So I bless the psychic. Not for giving me a clue to what’s next, but for giving me a clue to my fear. Perhaps the 405 isn’t all there is.

Now I have to deal with myself. If I’m so afraid of detours, how will I handle the Highway of Love when I’m on it? Will I run back to my dead-end? Will I swear off detours? Will I swear off possibilities? Will I choose Familiar over Better ?

Will I choose Safely Stuck over Scary What I Really Want ?

Will I stay in worry and doubt and fear and not leave my house, or will I move out and about with abandon? Will I keep my eyes open for danger, or will I allow in possibilities?

The choice is mine. The choice is yours.

Try this way of choosing:

When you find yourself stuck, or afraid, ask yourself what road you’re on.

You may answer - I’m in love! I couldn’t be happier! Or I’m safe and fine, I don’t need a relationship, I don’t need someone else to love me, I love myself just plenty. Or I don’t have time for all this. I’m busy, I’m tooling down my road just fine, and, Rori, what do you know about it anyway?

Okay, so you know what’s up. You’ve made your choice, and it feels good, and here you are, and you’re right - you don’t need me.

And if you answer I’m tired of the same-old-same-old. I’m tired of the souped-up cars and the dry runs and the circles, then, maybe, you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by choosing Better and Scary What I Really Want rather than Safe and Familiar.

So, put on your new hat. The one marked Adventurer!

Imagine that your emotions, your instincts, your heart rhythms, are a beautiful, powerful Horse you can ride across the landscape of your life. Your Horse knows the way, clean and clear, to where you want to go. And if you should ever steer it wrong, it knows the way back.

Now, sit your Horse tall and proud. You are about to let the whole world see you shake from fear, thrill from excitement, breathe hard from anticipation, tense up from the knot in your throat and shimmer from the hope in your eyes.

You are about to let go. The Horse of your emotions, your instincts, your connection to life, your heart, is feeling feisty. You’re about to let your Horse run free.

Imagine doing it. Imagine tolerating the fear, the excitement, the heavy breathing, the tension, the shimmer. Imagine riding the Horse somewhere new and feeling everything you’re feeling.

Believe that anytime you want, you can stop. Yes, you can stop. You can say No, turn back, go forward, take a rest. You can. You can say No when it doesn’t feel right, and you can say Yes when it feels right.

Sometimes it can feel right, but it’s just a little (okay, a lot) scary. Don’t let that stop you! Fear feels way different when you’re out there riding the Horse than it does when you’re stuck stock still. Fear is many things, and it wears many faces, and we build all kinds of defenses on top of it to pretend it isn’t there or hide it away, or fight it.

If you don’t believe Adventurers feel fear, you’ve been sitting in the safe dead-end too long. Fear is part of the Highway of Love. Bring yours along with you for the ride. Soon, it’ll get tired and old, and you’ll be too busy having fun to even notice if it’s there or not.

So, wear your Adventurer hat (yes, you have one!), take along all your baggage, and imagine the exhilaration of having what you want.

Then, kiss your Horse, and let it take you somewhere new - to the Highway of Love.

Are You Distracted?

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 4:21 pm

One morning last week, I heard a noise as I was in the car headed on my morning routine to the post office, then to get breakfast. I instantly knew what it was. A flat tire…and I was right.

But it was more than a flat tire…it was a distraction sent to us by the devil. If he can get us to focus on what else might go wrong in our day.

His main focus is to get us to focus on the cares of this world more than we do what God has called us to do.

John 10:10 tells us that the thief, which is satan, comes to steal, kill and destroy.

The last thing he wants you doing is fulfilling your destiny because every person who fulfills his/her destiny is another nail in satan’s coffin. One more assignment checked off of God’s to-do list before He sends satan into eternal damnation.

satan sends distractions our way, obstacles in our path, to try and prevent us from moving forward with our destiny. Bills pile up. The kids get sick. Your husband loses his job. You have an opportunity to move into a house from an apartment. A project at school or work.

Your body will go in the direction of whatever you are focusing on. Just like when a racing car driver is learning to drive. He is told that if he is headed for the wall, he needs to focus on wherever he wants to go. The car will go in the direction of his focus. Now if that works for cars, how much will it work in our lives?

For example, I chipped my front tooth. I still don’t know how, but I did. And my mind was focused on how I looked. Not that I am raving beauty, but that is the first place my mind went. I don’t show my teeth as it is when I smile, However, I convinced myself that whole world could see my chipped tooth, and that everyone was judging me because of it.

For most of that morning, my mind focused on how ugly I was. I even cried to God about it, but He is God-wisdom showed me a Scripture in Song of Solomon, a book I don’t normally go near. You are beautiful, my darling, beautiful beyond words, (Song of Solomon 4:1 NLT).

God knew exactly what to say to get my mind focused off the situation and back onto Him and His purpose for my life.

That’s what we have to do. We have to change our focus. When satan brings things into our lives to distract us, we need to change our focus onto things that are pure, lovely, truthful and of good report.

We can’t allow ourselves to stay focused on the trials and situations that the devil uses to distract us. We have to focus on what God said in His Word.

When sickness comes, start quoting Isaiah 53:4-5, reminding yourself that by Jesus’ stripes on the cross, you are already healed.

When financial trouble comes, start quoting Philippians 4:19, holding onto the promise that God shall supply all your needs.

I have this spiral notebook filled with Scriptures for every need that a missionary evangelist put together. My mother bought it years ago when she used to counsel on the phone at our local TBN station.

The missionary evangelist has seen testimony after testimony from people who have applied the Scriptures to their situation and had miraculous results.

She tells you to quote the Scriptures three times, four times a day. Once you say the Scripture to God, thanking Him for the promise. Two, you say it to satan, prefacing it, as Jesus did, with, It is written… Three, you say it to yourself by saying, I believe…

What I have discovered is if I will do this in this prescribed manner, my focus changes. My mind is no longer on my circumstances or my problems. Instead my mind is where it should be–on God and His wonderful promises.

When trials and distractions come on way, we have to be equipped with the Word. We need to counteract each of satan’s attacks, each of our negative thoughts, with the Word of God.

Whenever something negative happens in your life, immediately say, But God said… Then figure out what He said. You see, God and His Word are your final authorities. Nothing else matters. No trials. No distractions. Stand on the Word long enough and your circumstances will have to conform to what God says.

Don’t let distractions pull you away from your purpose, your destiny, from what God has called you to do. Determine in your heart that you are going to fulfill your assignment on this Earth. And no devil in hell, no person on earth, is going to stop you.

Remember your body will go in the direction of your mind is focusing on. What are you focusing on? God? Or your distractions? The choice is yours.

Six Mistakes To Avoid At The Taj Mahal

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 2:55 pm

Most of your visit to India’s most-famous attraction is natural and inspiring. If it is your first visit, however, it is easy to make the following mistakes

Mistake 1: Make your visit too short.

Buses have been known to allow as little as half an hour to “see” the Taj Mahal, which is hardly time to walk the length of the reflecting pool. If this is your bus’s timetable, consider finding another. Allow a minimum of two hours to fully savor the “poem in marble.”

Mistake 2: Arrive with no prior knowledge of the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum and not a palace; it was created by a Mughal king in honor of his wife who died giving birth to their fourteenth child, and it is covered in real marble. There is much more to the story that will enhance your enjoyment of what you will see and feel. Do yourself a favor and enjoy some reading and research beforehand; the more you know, the richer your experience. Guidebooks, such as Eyewitness, are helpful.

Mistake 3: Remain with your guide or group during your entire visit.

After hearing what they have to tell you, leave them and wander to a secluded spot so you can gaze at this wonder of marital love on your own. Carve out time for solitude. Sit on a bench and contemplate the grace, balance, and beauty of Shah Jahan’s creation.

Mistake 4: Limit your visit to the Taj Mahal to only one time of the day.

Throughout daylight, the marble dome reflects sunshine with hues of pink, orange and white. Clouds and rain add additional interest. In Agra, the sky provides a backdrop for the double dome of the Taj Mahal. See as many of these variations as you can. Count yourself blessed if you are able to see the Taj Mahal in the moonlight.

Mistake 5: Become frustrated with the guides and photographers.

It is a popular business to impart information and produce a lasting memory for you at the Taj Mahal. Guides will ask if you want them to tell you about their country’s most famous attraction. Photographers will want to snap shots of you during your visit. Most of them are citizens of the country you are visiting. If you have made plans that exclude your need for their services, refuse with firm courtesy. Your desire for personal viewing time needs to be balanced with their need to work.

Mistake 6: Don’t take any-or enough–pictures.

The Taj Mahal is the single most photographed place in India. You can add to this distinction with your own images. Unless you are certain you will return shortly, visually record your favorite sights while within the walls of the Taj complex. Are you drawn to the walkway? The row of shoes outside the entrance? The black and white pattern of the platform? The inlaid prayer rugs in the mosque? Whatever they are, record details as touchstones for remembered pleasure

>From the moment you enter through the gate and stroll along the dazzling, rectangular reflecting pool, the lovely mausoleum will draw you to its marble steps. Slipping off your shoes, you will pass into a softly lit interior, and circle two richly inlaid caskets beneath a great domed ceiling. The carvings on the walls, the spectacular dome, and the harmony of all the details are there for you to admire.

The truth of the matter is you could actually make all the mistakes above and still be touched by the Taj Mahal. It is a sight undiminished by expectations.

Taxi (Season 3) DVD Review

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 2:55 pm

With its biting humor and eccentric characters, Taxi is widely lauded as one of the top sitcoms in television history. The brainchild of James L. Brooks, whose golden touch played a role in such hits as The Andy Griffith Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Simpsons, Taxi continues to entertain and gather generations of new fans through syndicated reruns. With a superb cast and great writers, the show introduced the world to the comedic talents of Hollywood mainstays like Danny DeVito, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, Christopher Lloyd, and Andy Kaufman.

Taxi follows the daily operations of the Sunshine Cab Company, a New York City taxi service run by tyrannical dispatcher Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito). De Palma’s self-centered sarcastic remarks are often dispensed from the safety of his pathetically small office in the corner of the body shop, while various employees like Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch), Tony Banta (Danza), and Elaine Nardo (Henner) socialize and plot against their common enemy. Add foreign mechanic Latka Gravas (Kaufman) to the mix and all the ingredients are in place for hours of endless laughter. As the characters deal with problems of varying degree in their personal lives, the audience is treated to some of the best comedy ever produced for the small screen.

The Taxi (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Louie’s Rival” in which Louie’s girlfriend Zena dumps him for a bartender at Mario’s. Danny DeVito provides another hilarious performance as the heartless Louie… Other notable episodes include “The Costume Party” in which the gang crashes a luxury yacht party in the hopes of meeting some famous people, and “Bobby and the Critic” in which Bobby happens upon one of the theater critics who recently bashed his performance.

How To Find Success - Personal And Professional

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 1:11 pm

I am going to tell my story about how I made my first million at a young age, heck, I’m still young. I will also tell how I finally found peace and happiness which was instrumental me becoming financially successful.

All my life I was an under performer, at almost everything I did. I failed a couple of years at school; I was bad at sports and just generally an “E” grade student.

This went on though my college career and I barley scraped through my qualification.

I went on to do a Microsoft Qualification which I really excelled at, this was strangely bizarre a I had just got on the course because I didn’t know what I really wanted to do or where to go with my life. I even managed to get into the top 5% of all students.

I left the course at the end of the year and proceeded to try and find a job. Which I failed dismally at, the course I had taken was a very popular course and the IT market was flooded with people with this type of qualification.

Eventually I got a job working for my girlfriend’s dad, and that only lasted about eight months, I then drifted from job to job. Never working for more than a year at any one place of employment.

I got pretty tired of being just a guy with pretty rubbish, low paying office type jobs so I decided to move to another country, thing that it would be much easier somewhere else. The grass is always greener…

This was really the start of my hardship, I struggled to get any type of job and after being really broke ended up working as a dishwasher in a hotel, I did this for six months and then moved to more of a proper sales job. Guess what that only lasted three months before I was fired.

This continual cycle never seemed to stop and went through another three jobs before I decided that I should maybe think about doing something that I wanted to do.

I decided that I had better start my own business so I couldn’t get fired for one. It also puts the responsibility squarely on your shoulders, so if it all goes wrong it’s no one else’s fault but your own.

Since I know a bit about IT, I thought that it would probably be a good place to start. That’s where it all began, I started offering basic IT services to small business owners, that lead to referrals, and it all snow balled.

I didn’t take much money out the business, and kept my overheads low and reinvested as much as I could.

Within three years I had make over one Million Pounds, and had a business worth five times that.

To top it all off I am still under thirty.

The moral of the story is, be prepared to take the risk of starting your own business. Work hard and be smart. Don’t rob your business as soon as you start making a bit of money.

You will succeed.

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 1:11 pm

If you have a rocky workplace, this can also be a good excuse for insomnia. You are going to be stressed and uneasy about a lot of things when you are worried about what is going on at work. You need to find out a way to work through these problems to make them better. Get help from your supervisor or manager to take this problem on. Once you get it sorted out, you will probably find that you can rest better at night and start sleeping through the night like you once did.

Do not overeat as heavy meals will drain out your energy. Instead of eating a large meal, you need to eat three smaller meals throughout the day. You need to have your blood sugar and your insulin levels more even. You will also find it easier to sleep at night if you eat this way. You need to keep watch of what you eat so that you can dream away at night. Eating rich foods will help you out a lot when it comes to dieting. Remember that overeating can not only cause insomnia, it can also cause unwanted weight gain too.

Next, are you finding hard to concentrate while you sleep? Do you know that there are as many as 100,000 car accidents and fifteen hundred deaths that are from accidents caused by people that are driving while drowsy. This is a serious problem and one that more and more people need to address. There are lots of people that are sacrificing their sleep to do other things in life. It is not going to help anyone if a person skips the sleep that they need in order to do something else.

Insomnia is a leading cause in the United States for decreased productivity. They are not allowing themselves enough time for rest and relaxation and this is leading to more severe problems for them such as headache, acne problems, and even hair loss.

You should also eat a great breakfast. You need to eat foods that boost your metabolism and give the body energy to burn off. The brain will depend on the glucose for fuel and so carbohydrates for breakfast is a great idea. You should try to not skip any meals. It is important to eat healthy and to eat when you are hungry. Cereals and wholegrain bread is the best way to get a good start on your day and keep you awake.

Lastly, about a third of the average persons life is spent sleeping. This means that sleep is very important to our health and us. Healthy sleep is more important. It is vital to a human’s body and it is going to be essential for the brain to function the way that it is intended. Other organs in the body also depend on the amount of sleep that a person gets to function properly.

Using Cookware To Fight The Flab

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 12:07 pm

It may be true that obesity is caused by a number of different things, but it is correspondingly true that eating superfluous fat contributes to the condition. This is something parents of young children in particular have to watch carefully.

It’s generally true that children like fried food, because this manner of cooking slightly caramelizes the food by burning natural sugars. In short, it makes it taste sweet. Grilling, which can be less of a problem, has a similar consequence, and so too does roasting.

But the real felon where fat consumption is concerned is frying, because the food often has fat added to it, the main purpose of which is to prevent meat from sticking to the pan it’s cooking in. Oils such as olive and peanut may seem healthier than, say, butter, but they are still fats and should still be viewed with suspicion.

However, one effective way to avoid this problem is to use non-stick cooking pots and pans and leave out the extra fat altogether.

Unfortunately this sort of cookware has received some bad press recently, which suggested that there is a danger to pets associated with its use. There has been much supposition that the death of caged birds has been linked to toxic fumes given off from heated non-stick surfaces.

While there may be some truth in this, it’s important to understand that these criticisms are aimed at Teflon coated surfaces in particular. There are lots of other non-stick surfaces available which have not had this type of criticism levelled at them. In fact the use of this type of cooking surface has now become so universal, it has led to a new style of healthy home cooking using those fashionable double-sided grills.

These are great because during cooking any grease cooked out of the meat runs away into a separate tray, and of course no added fat is necessary to properly cook the food.

This means that low fat cuts of meat such as chicken and loin of lamb remain just that, relatively fat free. This is a big plus not just for those of us fighting obesity, but for anyone who cares about having a healthy diet.

It’s very easy to cook with these grills, and this in itself may well encourage people to eat more home cooked food and less bought-in takeaways. In addition, both fish and meat cook very quickly, further assisting the busy family cook with little time to spare.

If the healthy living assertions don’t convince you to at least try using non-stick pans, perhaps the budgetary ones will. Most non-stick cookware makes use of aluminium, making it much cheaper to buy than the stainless steel or cast iron equivalents.

And just to make life even easier, a simple rinse in warm, soapy water is all that is called for to keep non-stick surfaces clean. Even the most over-weight of us can surely manage that.

Family Emergency Preparedness

Filed under: Uncategorized — miscallaneousblog @ 12:07 pm

As the USA hurricane season wounds down some people are sighing with relief especially those on the Gulf Coast and Florida. Yes, we seemed to have dodged a bullet this year even though we still have until November 30th before the hurricane season officially ends.

So we are seeing at US Prepared people say: Well I guess that emergency preparedness is not the most important item on my radar for the rest of 2006.

WRONG!

This is the time that you need to prepare your family for 2007!

So what can you do?

First visit our site at www.usprepared.com http://www.usprepared.com and get your FR** Emergency Preparedness Guide and make sure to sit down with the family and read through it. After you have read through it then begin to take ACTION now!

Make sure that you have at least a week but preferably more of the items suggested on hand for every member of the family. And remember your pets are important for emergency preparedness!

We are strongly encouraging every family to purchase one particular item for Christmas this year - a family tent!

Why a family tent? Family tents usually have two or three room allowing for privacy.

Remember those poor souls that had driven away from Hurricane Katrina and Rita last year only to find the motels already booked to capacity and the stuffy concrete floors of the shelters packed like sardines?

Would it not be a heck of a lot more comfortable to find a state park or national park where you could set up your family tent without the added stress of hundreds of people crammed together?

We are going to be starting a national campaign at US Prepared to enlighten every legislator, governor, emergency preparedness official and media member about how we need to take advantage of our state and national parks during emergencies. We have learned that during Katrina state parks in Arkansas were utilized. That is a step in the right direction. Most state parks that I have visited in Georgia have bathrooms, showers and even electric outlets.

If you want to follow my venture then go to www.usprepared.com http://www.usprepared.com beginning around the first of November 2006 and you will see a video blog of my staying at a park for an extended period of time. You will see me in both a family tent and also an emergency preparedness tent that can be utilized for a larger amount of people.

We are strongly urging people to tell their friends and most importantly their elected officials about this project to better utilize our state and national parks for emergencies.
